Juicy January; Persimmon, Carrot and Turmeric & Pineapple, Grapefruit and Ginger plus a L’Equip Juicer Giveaway!

Juicy January - anti-inflammatory juices // roughmeasures.com

So far, January is looking pretty juicy, don’t you think? I do! We’re over a week into 2017 so far, David Attenborough is still alive and so are we. Not bad ey? So far 2017 is strutting its stuff. It’s a good month for us too as we are off to Whistler in 3 days time. Excited doesn’t even cut it. OHMYGODIAMBEYONDECSTATIC is a little closer. Having never been to Canada before, we are like two kids in a the biggest toy store you can think of. Except our toy store will be the mountains. 2 years since our last snowboarding trip, and 2 years since our last holiday together, this break is so needed. Snow keeps falling in Whistler, and I hope it keeps coming the next 2 weeks. 2 more days, my out of office will be on, and I’ll be an annoying bundle of energy as we make our way across the pond.

Keen to be in tip-top condition for our 14 day shred session, I’ve been upping my fruit and vegetable intake even more. Now, I may be a little behind on the juicing craze, but fear not, I’m catching up. I received the L’Equip 215 XL Juicer, voted the ‘Best Buy’ juicer in The Independent in 2012 and again in 2016, recently. This juicer performs just as well as some much pricier models. With an extra-large feeding tube and a 600w motor, this little number will pulverise and extract all that goodness from your 5 a day. I’ve rustled up not one, but two refreshing juice recipes to see you through January. I’ve loaded them up with turmeric and ginger, perfect for the anti-inflammatory benefits. Ginger is also a great immune booster and gives digestive support.

Juicy January; Persimmon, Carrot and Turmeric & Pineapple, Grapefruit + Ginger
Prep time
Total time
2 citrus juices to get your year off to a good start. I use organic fruit and veg here, no nasties. The juices will keep in a sealed bottle in the fridge for up to 3-4 days
Rough Measures:
  • 2 persimmons (sharon fruit)
  • 2 carrots
  • 1 orange
  • 2cm piece turmeric (or 1 teaspoon ground turmeric)
  • 1cm piece ginger
  • -----------------------------
  • ½ pineapple
  • 2 red grapefruit
  • 1 orange
  • Thumb size (around 2 inches) piece of ginger
  1. First, wash all fruit and veg thoroughly.
  2. Roughly chop each item so it can fit through the chute.
  3. For the first juice, cut the rough tops off the persimmons.
  4. Add all the ingredients to your juicer, using a jug to catch the juice.
  5. Second Juice;
  6. Roughly peel the grapefruit (the juicer handles it easier then)
  7. Add everything into the juicer.

  4. I love green juices with either spinach or kale as a base, lots of pineapple and some ginger for a nice kick!

  5. Pomegranate, cucumber, apple, orange, lemon. I do like anything that includes pomegranates, but this is a particularly zingy combination.

  6. I’ve never had a juicer so haven’t made my own but I love orange juice, a favourite since it was available via NHS when I was little many moons ago 🙂

  7. My absolute favourite is avocado, cucumber, spinach, pineapple and blueberries..it’s delicious and very energetic

  8. i love carrot and apple i always feel as if ive given my body some goodness after a juicy glass fab giveaway thankyou x

  9. Very jealous of your trip to Whistler, North American snow has an awesome reputation.

I visited the first Steamer shop in Alfriston last year – love the company too.

  10. apple and mango juice. I always buy the fresh stuff from the supermarkets so this would save me a few quid 🙂

  11. I love fresh watermelon juice. It’s got a lovely delicate taste that’s really different from any other fruit.

  12. I love Apple, pears, cherries! Packed with Vitamins and great for younger looking skin which is a bonus!

  13. Argh, my juicer is so old and cranky and takes an age to clean out. Would LOVE a new one! Favourite juice is definitely a beetroot one with ginger and carrots too. Brilliant colour. x

  14. Oooh I’ve never juiced a persimmon OR tumeric before! I can only imagine what a zesty, delicious creation this. I imagine my body would feel so cleansed after a glass of this juice!

  15. Strawberries, blueberries, banana, grapes & orange juice as they are my favourite fruits that are not only healthy for me but taste great together.

  16. I loooooove juice! Especially green juice: cucumber, celery, apple, kale, lemon and ginger. Or for morning burst of Carrot, Ginger and Orange! x

  17. I can feel a soar throat coming on – I need some of these juices. I’m unfamiliar with Steamer Trading, but will look out for them. Hoping your having a super time in Whistler.

  18. Pear and blueberry, the former for the taste and the latter as it’s a superfood and makes the juice bright blue!

  19. Choosing my fave is hard as I love my juices..the only one I don’t like is Mango. If I could only get one it would probably be grapefruit as it has a zing to it and instantly perks me up. x

    1. Whoops forgot to say why! I find pineapple juice is really refreshing, especially with a piece of toast in the morning!

  20. Apple juice, I don’t really know why but the taste just continues to amaze me. A really good thick pinapple juice comes close second.

  21. i do love fresh orange juice although the flavour can be harsh (too sharp with florida oranges, too sweet with spanish). I mix it with mandarin as it neutralises the harsh flavours.

  22. I love Mango juice, it’s so refreshing and reminds me of long summer holidays spent in tropical shores

  23. Citrus fruits as great for fighting colds in this weather and kids love them too 🙂
Also love berries or strawberry and banana mmm

  24. I Absolutely LOVE strawberry juice!! I would adore this prize as I would love experimenting with different fruits and veggies to make my family healthy juices to enjoy!! Fabulous prize!! Fingers, toes and everything else crossed!

  25. Pineapple juice is my fave – not too harsh 1st thing in the morning and makes a great Pina Colada too!

  26. Black berries 🙂 LOVE berries ! think we don’t eat enough but they remind me of picking and hunting for berries with my mum and dad, love the sweet plump purple jewels that’s fab for juice , jam and pies 🙂

  27. nice fresh orange juice with bits- I love the one sainsburys taste the difference do, I would love to be able to make some myself.

  28. I love orange and mango because it’s refreshing and sweet all at the same time so satisfies my sweet tooth whilst also giving me a bit zing!

  29. totally love pineapple juice so sweet and refreshing but can add as a base to lots of other things like smooties

  30. I love pure Apple Juice & have loved it since a child. But diluted slightly now to protect my teeth

  31. I love tomato juice and I grew 220kg so most are still in the freezer. When I take them out and thaw, the skins easily slip off and then I drink the juice and use the tomatoes in a stew etc. I don’t have a juicer.

Thank You! I love hearing from you all.
